Ephesus city was famed for the Temple of Artemis (completed around 550 BC), one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. In 268 AD, the Temple was destroyed or damaged in a raid by the Goths. Ephesus was one of the seven churches of Asia that are cited in the Book of Revelation. The emperor Constantine I rebuilt much of the city and erected a new public bath. Ephesus remained the most important city of the Byzantine Empire in Asia after Constantinople in the 5th and 6th centuries. Itinerary Transfer to Istanbul airport and fly to Izmir. Our first stop after pick up from the airport. We go visiting Ephesus, best preserved and restored ancient city in Turkey, which is known to be the Commercial, the Religious and the Social Center of Antiquity. We begin our day with a visit to The Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. We continue and explore the ancient city of Ephesus with its Great Theatre with a capacity of 24.000 spectators and Celsus Library, the Fountains of Trajan, the Temple of Hadrian and Domition. After lunch, we will visit the House of the Virgin Mary, where she spent her final days, followed by a return transfer back to Izmir for your flight to Istanbul.
